St. Laurent, 50 % Welschriesling 50 %

Grapes harvested from vineyards managed in certified organic Bio regime. Vavrinec was vinified as a still wine with spontaneous fermentation in barrels. After its completion, the wine was transferred to a 2000-liter stainless steel tank. Fermented Riesling must with an optimal residual sugar level was added to the still Vavrinec. Subsequently, the wine was bottled and sealed with a crown cap. Fermentation continued in the bottle, where gradual natural sugar decomposition into alcohol and carbon dioxide bubbles occurred.

Wine produced using traditional methods without the use of selected yeasts, enzymes, or other additives. Sulfur dioxide was not used in any stage of the production process. The total content of sulfites is 29 mg and is related to their natural occurrence in the wine.

CHARACTERISTICS

Upon pouring and first tasting, a certain resemblance to Lambrusco is evident, of course, a dry one from a quality producer. However, this is not carbonation; vinification occurred by adding fermented Riesling to the still Vavrinec with subsequent bottle fermentation. Darker purple-red color with an impressive purple foam and persistent fine bubbling. Intense aroma of red fruits, with ripe cherries, sour cherries, currants, and red berries on the nose. Medium-bodied, in the mouth, it is exceptionally fresh and juicy due to pleasant acidity. The palate detects baskets of ripe red fruits. Ultimately, an excellent refreshing summer red-pink sparkling result. Unconventional blend – a fantastic outcome!

Strekov 1075

The Južnoslovenská wine region of Slovakia is renowned for producing some of the country’s most genuine and evocative wines. One winery that stands out in this area is Strekov 1075, led by the highly skilled winemaker Zsolt Sütő.

Sütő and his partner Tibor Melecsky established Strekov 1075 in 2002, initially making wines from grapes purchased from the Strekovo region. In 2004, they began planting their own vineyards and now manage 12 hectares of biologically protected vines, with eight hectares currently in production. The winery prioritizes traditional grape varieties and minimal involvement in the winemaking process, with the aim of highlighting the abundance of the Strekovo terroir through pure, additive-free wines.

Strekov 1075’s vineyards cultivate a diverse range of grapes, including Blue Portugal, St.Laurent, Blaufränkisch, Dunaj, Alibernet, Welschriesling, Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, and Devín. These grapes are used to create four distinct series of wines: Corpus, Classic, Terroir, and Special. Each series mirrors the quality and personality of the grapes and terroir, offering a variety of styles for wine aficionados to discover.

Sütő is strongly dedicated to producing genuine, evocative wines that embody the land and people of the Strekov region. The winery’s philosophy, which can be found on their website, states: “We want the person getting to know our wine to get pure, true information about us, about our outlook on life. When he drinks our wine, he should feel that we want to get to know him through our wine, but we don’t want to like each other at all costs.” This commitment to authenticity and openness is what sets Strekov 1075 apart and has gained the winery a loyal following of wine enthusiasts not just in Slovakia, but also internationally.

If you’re a fan of genuine, terroir-driven wines, be sure to give Strekov 1075 a try. With their diverse range of grapes and styles, you’re guaranteed to find a wine that speaks to you and takes you to the heart of the Južnoslovenská wine region.
